私は、形をただ再現するのではなく、その存在から立ちのぼる独自の雰囲気、漂う気配、そこに染み込んでいる余韻や歴史といった「目に見えないもの」の表現を試みています。私の制作の根底にあるのは、具象と抽象、確固たるものと移ろいゆくものというような一見対立する概念の融合、そしてその間を行き来しながら見えてくるものを拾い上げることです。

 

日本の美大卒業後、1997年より渡仏し、14年間パリの様々なアトリエでヌードデッサンや彫塑の経験、美術館通いから独自研究もしました。そこで培った人体解剖学的な構造の捉え方、観念的・彫刻的な考え方、そして自然観察を通じたアプローチが私の基礎となっています。

2011年の東日本大震災ののち、数年間何も描けなくなった空白の期間、私は存在の確実性を身体的に確かめるため彫塑制作へと向かいました。このとき、震災で傷ついた心と以前から私の中にあった「揺らぎ」の感覚を作品に取り入れたことにより、以前よりもテーマが強く確かなものとなりました。更にそこから「不在という存在」への着目へと繋がり、私は再び絵を描き始めました。現在は、「描かないことでも、その微かな、しかし確かな存在を感じさせる」、「一つのところにとどまらないもの」という思想を交差させながら、独自の表現を展開しています。

 

2025年から制作を始めた『Presence』シリーズの目的は、自画像や家族といった極めて身近なモチーフを通じ、その人が持つ「独自の空気感」や「生きてきた痕跡」を描き出すことです。個人のプライベートな存在を描く営みは、普遍的な記憶や感情へと繋がっていきます。これまでの探求を経た現在の表現は一つの通過点にすぎません。今後はこの「目に見えない気配を描く手法」をさらに拡張し、空間や人間の内面を見つめ、より深い普遍的な表現へと進化させてゆきたいと考えています。

Rather than simply reproducing forms, I attempt to express the invisible realms—the singular atmosphere surrounding a subject, the subtle presence hovering in the air, and the echoes of time and history that linger within. At the core of my creative work lies the fusion of seemingly opposing concepts—the figurative and the abstract, the tangible and the fleeting—and the capturing of what emerges as I navigate between these two worlds.

After graduating from an art university in Japan, I moved to France in 1997. Over the course of 14 years, I developed my artistic practice in various studios in Paris through life drawing and sculpture, alongside independent research driven by regular visits to museums. The understanding of anatomical structure, a conceptual and sculptural mindset, and an approach based on observing nature form the foundation of my work today.

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, I experienced a blank period of several years during which I was unable to paint. To physically reaffirm the certainty of existence, I turned to sculptural practice. By integrating into my work the emotional scars left by the disaster alongside a long-held sense of instability within myself, my overarching themes became stronger and more definitive. This led me to focus on “the presence of absence,” which eventually guided me back to painting. Today, my work develops at the intersection of two concepts: “evoking a subtle yet definite presence through what is left unpainted” and “a state of constant transformation.”

The Presence series, which I began in 2025, aims to capture a person’s unique atmosphere and the traces of their lived experience through intimate motifs such as self-portraits and family. This act of inquiring into an individual’s private existence connects back to universal memories and emotions. My current expression represents merely a milestone; moving forward, I intend to further expand this method of capturing the invisible, observing both physical space and human inner life to evolve my work toward a deeper, more universal expression.
